What Happened to St. Bart's Peace Pole?

Posted by The Rev. Mark McKone-Sweet on

You may have noticed that the Peace Pole, which was in the garden outside the church offices, is missing. That Peace Pole now resides at the Temple Adat Shalom.

On October 30, members of the St. Bart’s congregation participated in a vigil at Temple Adat Shalom to remember the victims of the tragedy in Pittsburg on October 27, 2018, and to pray together with the members of that congregation and those of many other faiths who gathered that night. We brought our Peace Pole to the event as a physical presence to symbolize the oneness of humanity and a common wish for a world at peace.

Our Peace Pole stood amidst the assembly. It was our wish that the pole find its new permanent home at Temple Adat Shalom as a symbol of that gathering and as a permanent reminder of the love and support people of all faiths can offer each other, not only in times of tragedy and grief, but more importantly, in a display of hope and prayer for a more peaceful future.

Costa and Ellen Dillon, who donated this Peace Pole to St. Bart's, have ordered a new one for us.
