Why You Should Join St. Bart's Men's Group

Posted on

Other men may share my reaction to a fellow parishioner’s suggestion that I attend the Men’s Bible Study. “I’ve thought about it but I’m not sure it’s for me. I am not a Bible scholar and have little knowledge about the history, places and people I hear about in church. I don’t know where the places are and can’t pronounce most of the names!”

I took a leap of faith this year and signed up for the new group that was forming, perhaps because I knew I could drop out. At the first meeting, we introduced ourselves. There were men of all ages, but I learned how much we have in common as we shared our backgrounds. The group’s leaders reviewed how we would have open discussion about the week’s readings in the study guide. We would discuss what those readings mean to us in our daily lives.

After a few meetings, rather than a Bible study group, I saw our transformation into a Men’s Group. I liked the discussions of how we apply our weekly Bible reading to challenges we face in our daily lives. Sometimes I don’t read the lessons or feel like going to the weekly group meeting, but I’ve gone because I don’t want to let my group down. I know I will be uplifted by the conversations which draw me closer to God.

It’s amazing to me how much of God’s lessons I’m learning just by what we share in our group. I leave each meeting with positive, renewed energy for the rest of the week.

I encourage all men to sign up now for the St. Bart’s Men’s Group. We begin discussing The Path Friday, September 15, 8-9:30 a.m.
